The Tokyo Toy Show (Japanese: 東京おもちゃショー, Tōkyō Omocha Shō), also known alternatively in English as the International Tokyo Toy Show, is an annual event sponsored by the Japan Toy Association that promotes toys and entertainment franchises in Tokyo, Japan. It is usually held in June at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, also known as Tokyo Big Sight. The first two days are limited to industry professional "buyers" and the last two are free to the public.[1]

History[]

The first event was held in 1962 and called the Japan International Toy Fair (日本玩具国際見本市). In 1977, the name was changed to the Tokyo International Toy Fair. Since 1982, the name has formally been the Tokyo Toy Show. In 2003, the event was closed to the public as the toy market was shrinking due to the declining birth rate in Japan, so that only industry professionals could attend to conduct business negotiations.[2] A separate Japan Toy Show was held later in 2003 at Pacifico Yokohama for a fee.[3] In 2006, the event was re-opened to the public and the name International Tokyo Toy Show was adopted.[4]
